Organic Milk: Why 'Kedar' is Just Outstanding
Back in 2019 at Eden Festival in the Scottish Borders we were talking to Mr Duffin’s Coffee at their stand - near where we were also serving. Having had a great chat about coffee and supplies, Mr Duffin asked what milk we were using and suggested we consider local high quality milk. We had just been using regular whole milk and hadn’t thought at all to look for a local farmer.
How ridiculous! There we are visiting farmers on the other side of the world to pay over the market price in order to support their communities … while at the same time subsiding milk’s mass industry nonsense and ignoring Scottish farmers just down the road. We had only be trading for a year, but it had been a busy one and this certainly was a ‘eureka’ moment for us.
Chasing up on a recommendation, we spoke to the lovely farmers from Annandale Water (Farm) who very very highly recommended Kedar Cheese. We did a bit of research and Kedar’s milk looked amazing but it just got better.
Here why we love them:
Small family farm business
Made the change from being involved in mass market to supplying a better product direct
The milk is delivered by the actual farmers! (Jane and Gavin come to the Edinburgh farmers market once a week and swing by to see us.
They are always such a pleasure to chat with and go the extra mile to help us (help with fridges)
Gavin sometimes secretly slips us some of their superb smoked mozzarella (cheeky)
Then the milk … Its top class:
Organic
Grass Fed
Loved and cared for cows
Glass Bottled
Delivered Fresh
Tastes miiles better than anything else we have tried or been offered
Scottish
‘Free Range’
So we just love it. An all-round outstanding example of what small business should be.
Why do Kedar like working with us?
“We like the ethos of you working directly with the farmer, that was the first thing that attracted us to Uplands Roast. It's great too - that you appreciate the high quality of the milk which our organic Brown Swiss cows produce.”
“We started going direct (to businesses) because it adds value to the milk and gives stability to our business. It smooths out fluctuations in the wholesale milk price.”
“Supplying direct builds our relationship with our customers where we get honest feedback and it's good to be able to show people what milk should taste like”
